FAQs

Who is Innovate 1 for?

Innovate 1 is for young musicians aged 8–10 (School Year 4–5). It welcomes any instrument — including voice — and any level. The only requirement is enthusiasm and a willingness to collaborate.

My child plays a ‘classical’ instrument. Is Innovate right for them?

Absolutely. Innovate is open to all instruments without exception — strings, woodwind, brass, piano, guitar, voice, and everything in between. The group’s strength comes from its diversity.

What kind of music does the group make?

The group creates original music for performance each term, drawing on a wide range of traditions — grooves, improvisation, rich harmonies, songs, and the spoken word. No two terms are the same.

Does my child need to be having lessons at YMM to join?

No. Innovate 1 is open to young musicians regardless of whether they have individual lessons at YMM, as long as they are in the right age range and playing at some level.

How do I join?

Just get in touch via our Contact or enquiry page and we will let you know about availability and the best way to get started.

Will there be chances to perform?

Yes. Every group at YMM performs at the end-of-term concert, and many groups also play at weekly café concerts and special events throughout the year.
