Role: Creative Music Practitioner and Early Years Tutor

(Spring 2024)

We’re seeking a talented, dynamic, flexible musician who can facilitate collaborative creative work with young people, working towards a performance each term with our INNOVATE groups. It would be advantageous if the candidate could also work with MUSIC BOX, our early years programme. Initially, the timetable would run between 9.15 am and 12.30 pm, but there is potential for an additional 3 hours of teaching comprising of the candidate's instrumental, vocal or compositional specialism.

Young Music Makers is a non-profit music centre for the whole family which has been at the heart of music-making in North London for over 50 years. We are strong advocates for generic excellence, but over and above that we are committed to the idea that simply having music as part of your life promotes personal and community well-being. We believe in teaching from a place of inspiration and are advocates of empowering and developing musicians with creative skills alongside generic skills, encouraging self-enquiry and lifelong learning. You would be joining a team of stellar musicians in a welcoming, supportive environment where there are opportunities to lead and initiate ensembles and connect your personal artistic practice to teaching.

Required:

  • Compositional skills
  • Music Leading skills
  • Music Workshop skills

Ideal:

  • Experience of ensemble-leading
  • Experience with early years/beginner teaching
  • Experience with adult students
  • Experience of teaching both in-person and remotely
  • Experience of taking a student through to grade 8 and beyond in a similar setting

The candidate will need to possess an enhanced DBS certificate (paper or update service) valid within 3 years upon appointment.

Fees:

£37.50 per hour - Ensembles over 10+ participants £33.00 per hour - Ensembles 4-9 participants £31.00 per hour - Individual lessons

Zoom interviews will be on Wednesday, January 3 2023, with a follow-up teaching assessment on January 6 if successful.
