Privacy and cookies

A simple guide to how this website uses information, cookies, optional analytics, and form services.

Last updated: 16 June 2026

In brief

Young Music Makers uses this website to share information about lessons, groups, events, policies, and ways to get in touch. If you fill in a form, we use the details you give us to respond to your enquiry and manage the service you have asked about.

Optional analytics are off unless you accept them. If enabled, analytics help us understand what is working on the site and may include masked session replays so we can spot usability problems. We do not sell personal data and we do not intentionally capture form answers or contact details in analytics.

Who is responsible for this website?

Young Music Makers London Limited is the data controller for this website. We are a registered charity in England and Wales, charity number 264274.

If you have a question about privacy or want to exercise your rights, please contact us.

What information do we use?

When you browse

We receive basic technical information needed to show the website, keep it secure, and diagnose problems, such as server logs and page requests.

When you contact us

Contact and enquiry forms ask for the details needed to respond, such as your name, email address, phone number, the type of enquiry, and the message you choose to send.

When you accept optional analytics

We may collect pseudonymous website usage data, such as pages visited, rough device and browser information, and safe interaction events. If replay is enabled, recordings are masked and used only to improve website usability.

Cookies and browser storage

Cookies and similar browser storage help websites remember choices or understand how a site is used. We keep optional analytics behind your choice.

Storage Type When used Purpose How long it lasts
ymm.analyticsConsent.v1 Strictly necessary local storage After you accept or reject optional analytics Remembers your privacy choice so we do not ask on every page. Until browser storage is cleared or YMM changes the consent version.
ph_<project-token>_posthog and related PostHog storage Optional analytics cookie and browser storage Only after you accept optional analytics and the site setting is enabled Helps PostHog recognise the same browser during website analytics sessions. PostHog says its default cookie can last up to 365 days; related browser storage lasts until it is cleared or reset.

You can change your choice at any time using Privacy choices in the site footer. Rejecting optional analytics stops PostHog capture and clears PostHog storage on a best-effort basis in this browser.

Services that help run the website

We use trusted services to host the website, manage content, process forms, protect forms from spam, send staff notifications, understand optional analytics, and show the map on the Find Us page.

  • Vercel hosts and serves the website.
  • Sanity stores website content edited by YMM.
  • Neon stores accepted form submissions for operational follow-up.
  • Brevo sends form notification emails to YMM staff.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile helps protect forms from spam and abuse.
  • PostHog EU Cloud provides optional analytics and masked replay.
  • Google Maps provides the embedded map on the Find Us page.

The Find Us page includes an embedded Google Maps map that currently loads with the page. When that map loads, Google may receive technical information such as your browser, device, IP address, and the page you visited. You can still use the address and travel information on the page without interacting with the map.

Some service providers may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, YMM expects appropriate contractual and legal safeguards to be in place.

Why we use information

Use Reason Legal basis
Responding to forms and enquiries To answer questions and help families access lessons, groups, and support. Legitimate interests or steps before providing a service.
Running and protecting the website To keep the site available, secure, and working properly. Legitimate interests and, where needed, legal obligations.
Optional analytics and masked replay To improve the website and spot usability issues after launch. Consent, including consent for non-essential browser storage used for optional analytics and masked replay.

How long we keep information

We keep information only for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, including responding to enquiries, managing YMM services, meeting charity, safeguarding, or legal obligations, and protecting the website.

Information How long we keep it
Contact and enquiry form submissions Only for as long as needed to respond, manage YMM services, keep appropriate charity/safeguarding records, and meet legal obligations.
Consent preference Until browser storage is cleared or YMM changes the consent version.
Optional PostHog browser storage Up to 365 days for the default cookie; related browser storage lasts until cleared or reset.

Security and server logs Kept only as long as needed for security, diagnostics, and abuse prevention.

Your choices and rights

You can reject optional analytics, accept optional analytics, or change your choice later using Privacy choices in the footer. If masked replay is enabled after YMM's launch checks, it is included in the optional analytics choice. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser.

You can contact us to ask about the personal information we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it where appropriate, object to some uses, or raise a concern. If you are not happy with our response, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office.

Other YMM policies

Safeguarding and operational policies are listed separately on our Policies and safeguarding page. Those documents are available on request unless YMM chooses to publish specific policy files later.
