Music Box 1 is extremely popular and very good fun! It is the perfect introduction class for 4–5 year olds, learning music through movement, singing and games. Not only does it give children the best start in their musical life, on the way to instrumental groups and lessons, it also provides the opportunity to form friendship groups at the very start of their YMM journey.

What is Music Box 1?
Music Box 1 is YMM’s introductory music class for 4–5 year olds (Reception). Children explore music through movement, singing, games, and listening, building the foundations of musicianship in a joyful, playful setting.
Does my child need any musical experience to join?
None at all — Music Box 1 is designed as a first musical experience. Everything is explored through play, and no prior knowledge is needed or expected.
Do I stay with my child during the session?
Parents and carers stay with their children at first, then gradually step back as their child grows in confidence. Most families find that after a term their child is happy to join in independently — though every child is different and there is no pressure to rush.
What happens after Music Box 1?
Children naturally progress to Music Box 2 the following year, continuing to build musicianship skills before moving on to instrumental lessons and groups.

Will there be chances to perform?
Yes. Every group at YMM performs at the end-of-term concert, and many groups also play at weekly café concerts and special events throughout the year.
