FAQs
Who is the Salsa Group for?
The Salsa Group is for musicians aged 11 and above with some ensemble experience. It is open to horn players, rhythm section players, and vocalists who want to dive into the rhythms, charts, and stagecraft of salsa.
What instruments are welcome?
Trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, bass, guitar, congas, timbales, and voice are all at home in a salsa group. If you play a rhythm or horn instrument and are interested, get in touch.
Do I need to know anything about salsa music to join?
Some ensemble experience is helpful, but you don’t need prior salsa knowledge. Part of the joy of the group is discovering the style — the syncopation, the feel, and the energy — together.
How do I join?
Just get in touch via our Contact or enquiry page and we will let you know about availability and the best way to get started.
Will there be chances to perform?
Yes. Every group at YMM performs at the end-of-term concert, and many groups also play at weekly café concerts and special events throughout the year.
