FAQs
What is Theory Support?
Theory Support is a group session for students working on music theory — covering notation, keys, harmony, rhythm, and the building blocks of musical understanding. It is a chance to ask questions and consolidate learning alongside other students.
What level is Theory Support aimed at?
The session is flexible and can support students at different levels, from those just starting to read music through to those preparing for grade 5 theory exams. Sessions are adapted to the needs of the students present.
Do I need to be having individual theory lessons to join?
No. Theory Support runs as a group session and is open to YMM students who want to develop their theoretical understanding, whether or not they have one-to-one lessons.
Which instruments does Theory Support help?
Theory is universal — the session is relevant to players of any instrument and singers. Understanding how music is written and structured benefits every musician.
How do I join?
Just get in touch via our Contact or enquiry page and we will let you know about availability and the best way to get started.
Will there be chances to perform?
Theory Support itself isn't a performing group, but it directly supports the exam and performance readiness of students across all of YMM's performing ensembles and individual lessons.
