FAQs
Do I need any prior music knowledge to start music technology lessons?
Not at all. Music technology lessons at YMM welcome complete beginners alongside those with some musical background. Whether you are starting from scratch or already make music and want to develop your production skills, lessons are tailored entirely to you.
What software and equipment will I need?
Lessons are taught using industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). Your tutor will discuss the best free or paid options for your computer and budget — many excellent tools are available free of charge, so you do not need to invest heavily to get started.
What will I actually learn to do?
Music technology lessons cover recording, production, mixing, sound design, and creativity using contemporary studio tools. You might work on your own tracks, learn how to record live instruments, or study how your favourite records are constructed. The direction is shaped around your interests.
Can music technology support my other musical learning?
Very much so. Music technology works alongside instrumental or vocal lessons, composition, and arranging study — and many students find it transforms how they hear and understand music across the board.
Will there be chances to share or perform work?
Yes. Student work can be shared in YMM's concert and performance events, and students can also connect with Innovate groups where technology, composition, and live performance come together.
