FAQs

Who is the Groove Orchestra for?

The Groove Orchestra is one of YMM’s most inclusive groups — all instruments (including voice), all styles, and all ages are genuinely welcome. It is at the heart of YMM’s mixed-age, mixed-ability music-making offer.

What kind of music does it play?

A wonderful range — classical, jazz, pop, funk, world music, and more. The repertoire is chosen to bring out the best in a diverse group and give everyone a meaningful part to play.

My child is quite young — can they join with older players?

Yes. The Groove Orchestra is specifically a mixed-age group, and younger players alongside adults is part of what makes it special. The musical experience is supportive and welcoming for all.

Do I need to be a strong player to join?

No. The group welcomes players at a range of levels. What matters is the ability to engage with the ensemble, listen, and contribute — not a particular grade standard.

How do I join?

Just get in touch via our Contact or enquiry page and we will let you know about availability and the best way to get started.

Will there be chances to perform?

Yes. Every group at YMM performs at the end-of-term concert, and many groups also play at weekly café concerts and special events throughout the year.
